5 Things You Should Know Before Finding A Drone-related Job

    By Flip | FLIP | Comments are Closed | 10 July, 2019 | 0

Are you a certified drone pilot looking for work or a drone hobbyist curious about opportunities? The drone industry is where you may be able to find a variety of careers that are ripe for exploration.

Things could get a little tricky to navigate, however, particularly if you’re new to the sector (or to the workforce in general).

Before delving into a particular drone-related career choice, consider these tips.

    There are many aspects

The drone industry is huge, and as demand grows, you’re probably going to see even more opportunities open up. A drone pilot isn’t the only career choice anymore. There are so many other roles to fill. Among these, drone engineers and designers, as well as data analysts and photographers will likely be in demand. Drones often relate to other professions. For example, many photographers learn how to control drones for better aerial shots or corporate videos.

For this reason, consider exploring different drone-related careers. You might be more of a fit with one of the other non-pilot jobs that may be less popular but just as promising.

The drone operator job market is still growing

Bloomberg predicts that by 2020, the drone market will be 33% larger than it is today. This indicates continuing growth in the industry and no signs yet of slowing down. It also indicates an incredible amount of growth in a short period of time. This leads to hundreds of different applications that are related to UAVs, as well as rising demand for those applications in a variety of industries.

With that being said, now’s a great time to consider entering the industry as a drone operator, particularly if you already have a good understanding of how to fly a drone. Having the money to purchase a good commercial model will probably help as well.

     The money can be good

Even as a licensed freelancer, drone pilots have been known to make some really good money from accumulative assignments they take on. Pilots could make a few hundred for a package of real estate photos. Flying drones part-time can fetch hundreds a week, and full-time flying could result in even more.

Some pilots have even been able to reach six-figure incomes annually, particularly when working with high-profile companies and clients. So, it doesn’t seem that a shortage of monetary rewards should stop you from choosing a career path working with drones.

Drone jobs aren’t as easy as you might expect

Although it can seem like fun and games, take note! Entering the drone industry can prove quite challenging. You’re likely going to find features, capabilities and technology becoming even more sophisticated. Similarly, requirements (with regards to skill and technical expertise) may also become more stringent.

Depending on the sector you bring your knowledge of drones into, your job could involve data analytics, engineering aspects, Artificial Intelligence systems, integration with the Internet of Things, programming additional code for complex tasks and a whole lot more.

So, you’re probably going to have a lot to learn over time. Like other professions, you’re probably going to have to gain a decent amount of experience before you can call yourself an expert.

There are plenty of learning resources

Fortunately, resources for learning about the drone industry are quite freely available. Delve into these programs as they can help you while you begin your journey into becoming a full-fledged licensed drone pilot.

There are also loads of courses that focus on non-pilot aspects such as mechanics and additional applications, as well as basic fundamentals. Getting skilled and trained can be a crucial part of standing out from the competition

Whether you’re interested in becoming a certified drone pilot or are more inclined towards the other parts of the drone industry, consider these tips and do your research before deciding on any one option.
